Malacca Open .. Triumphant??

LOLZ ...

   Just returned from Malacca .. excelled.. well i thought i did .. in the Malacca open Scrabble Challenge ( 22&23 November ) .. got 5th place .. 9 wins and 6 loses .. And here we are ... the narration of the before , during and after the tourney ..

   It started on the 21st November .. had to go to  Tan Jin Chor's house to wait for Alex Tan there ... Here , i learnt his ISC account ( coho88 ) . Then , we had a friendly game against each other whilst waiting for Alex .. A short account on the game .. 

  With a horrible rack of  EEEGLVY , i hesitated for a moment before opening the game with a phony ( nonword ) .. VEELY .. ( the variation was VEILY or VEALY .. later found out the best move was GEELY or GYVE ) Jin Chor had a thorough thinking before deciding not to challenge it of, prefering to hook the E for HUMANISE .. seemingly AHIMNSU had no bingo by itself .. thought i was gone .. until consistency , ADORABLE , SWINDLE and ABORTED won me the game .. the second game also saw me in a winning position and was aborted as Alex Tan and Jocelyn Lor had arrived .. Loading the bags , we head off to Malacca ..

  In the car i learnt many new words courtesy of Alex and Jin Chor who played anagrams with me.. VOERTSAK , OVERTASK , VOERTSEK , OVERKEST , LEVODOPA , CIDARIS , SCIARID SOLIDUNGULATE ( without SOLID also valid :P ) are just the many words i learnt .. When we reached Malacca , we entered a Tan Kim Hock shop which was selling dodol .. evidently Jin Chor wanted some but ended up buying 50.00++ worth of food without any dodol in it ! lolZ

Found Fenix Inn and i camped out in Jin Chor's room before Gan Yi En picked me up to his house .. Khoo Beng Way was also with me and we bunked in Yi En's house for the two days ..

  That night , i talked with Beng Way about alot of stuff , catching up with one another was our main topic as we talked about school life , social life , scrabble and the outcome of the tournament ... Slept at 3 that day .. loLz .. Beng Way woke up the next morning with a height of intensed tiredness .. whoops .. my bad .. loLZ

  Okay , now to the tournament commentary .. here is how Chang Ching Wei fared...

GAME 1 ( Kong Chock Heng ) 

 A veteran who has been in the WSC ( World Scrabble Championship ) , and who has beaten Ganesh Asirvatham ( JUGGERNAUT ) of late , his dominance of consistency was well shown in this game .. Scoring consistently with VINEY ( phony ! ) , HONK , bETTERS , JOG , VIGOUR and many more proved too much for me .. lost by 89 ..

Game 2 ( Tan Jin Chor ) 

 He started well with a double-double  CoITIONS (91) but lost out to my cheapos as well as my CLIMATES and INLAYERs .. won by 55 extending my score of 2-3 with him having a win more ..

Game 3 ( Alex Tan ) 

  His game .. enuf said .. he bingoed the beautiful WATaPES and REDWInG to my SALVOING to win by 85 .. i phonied AROHE ( actually its ARUHE and AROHA >< ) and CARDMAN ( an open O would give me CARDAMON ) ..

Game 4 ( Paulette Yeoh ) 

  Continued my winning streak against her to 4-1 .. flinged 2 cheapos ( DITZES and JOTTERS ) and a bingo SURMISED to win the game by 85 covering up the loss by Alex ..  she tried SHAPENED knowing fully well SHAPEN is past tense already .. and she wanted to try HEADPEN but she knows its not valid ..

Game 5 ( William Kang ) 

  One of the ten M'sia WYSC representatives  , my tiles were shitty and even with TURNINg and EbONIST couldn't help me from losing by 91 ..

Game 6 ( Cedric Stewart Lewis ) 

  WHITENS and OREADEs for 97 each coupled with COZ and JANN won me the game by 48 .. Lost tempo with a phony REJONS ( doesn't take an S )

Game 7 ( Martin Teo ) 

  Facing the tournament director coordinator and one whom i have beaten before was not a factor anymore .. it never was ! when facing anybody , i know that with good tiles , anybody can win anybody .. lost by 78 with a painful VaLIDER , ZINES and MILLERs to my NARTJIE ..

Game 8 ( Yeap Gim Sai ) 

  DJIN , SPOONIES , UNIDEAL , ZOOM and QI won me the game ... missed a last turn bingo of RESINER or RERISEN .. she bingoed ELICITs and BODEGAs to reduce the losing spread to 72 .. could have extended the spread if i bingoed ..

Game 9 ( Jocelyn L0r ) 

   nOTATES was the only bingo which i gave to win the game .. she caught up with ZARFS opening the A for a possible JA .. was afraid she would do it so i blocked with AVA only to receive the J myself !! sad.. consistency ftw .. won by a mere 7

That was the end of Day 1 ... the last win gave me a chance to face Khoo Beng Way  tomorrow at the first game .. slept at 1 on that day .. tired.. 

okay .. Second day.. 

Game 10 ( Khoo Beng Way ) 

  Lost by a freaking 28 !! .. he started with tISSUAL but i managed to retaliate with NATURAE .. his ETAErIO was met with my OVERLENT but he had the rest of the power tiles including the S to make a 48-point move ftw .. could have save the game if i had just one freaking S...

Game 11 ( Tan Jin Chor ) 

   Finally , i drew a cheap bingo on the first rack .. ADEINRR ( lolz , think la .. not that hard ) [ RANDIER or DRAINER ] . Played RANDIER and was given back LOAMIER .. =.=' After RANDIER , i had ABGGUUW .. a fine repayment for a cheap bingo .. Jin Chor had DECLARER on his third move and i was playing catch-up from then on with me making ground with OVeRING and OVARiES ... he missed INSIGHTS for the win .. instead he gave me a headache trying to figure out the winning move ... I found it in the end but missed out his AZOTED but i still won by 9.. phew ..

Game 12 ( Seshi Ramanathan ) 

    I have played her once and lost on that occasion .. Still it didn't stop me from winning by 95 in this match .. bingoed a nine letter word ( my first in tourneys :D ) COWARDIcE .. could have won by a larger margin if my tiles were a bit nicer ; no vowels .. heavy tiles .. the likes ..

Game 13 ( Henry Yeo Kien Hung ) 

   The last two times i played with him , i lost by 4 and 6 respectively .. so , i was bent on beating him .. loLZ .. there was a spot prize on this round .. the two players with the highest cumulative score for this round gets 2 packets of koko krunch .. lolZ .. I had crazy bad tiles in this one .. ADEGOUU wasn't a pretty sight .. I played SWAGGERS and BORACITE to his ALLERION , ROTTANS , HARMONIEs and PARODISTs .. look .. two nine letter bingoes .. shit.. final score was 586 - 389 to henry's favour .. we won the spot prize ..

Game 14 ( Martin Teo )

    I was bent on beating him to get some pride... lolZ .. sorry , Martin .. gave him TwONIES to his DAUBIeST and INSNARES .. end game was pretty amusing .. he could have won , i think .. still won by 9 to reach my goal mark .. loLZ

Game 15 ( Alvin Lau ) 

   The cheapest game in my  tourney now .. lolZ .. gave him FRITZ for 60 .. QIBLA for 45 .. JEAN for 45 .. SIXERS for 72 and HOLDiNG for 81 to his EGOTISEs and OUTWARDS .. proves his one day stint was just a one day stint .. He had only lost twice in 9 games on the first day .. then he lost the whole second day .. lolZ .. won by 85 ..
